Mbappé and Kane... Goal Kings Without a Champions League Crown
Monday 06-04-2026
Kylian Mbappé and Harry Kane are preparing for an upcoming clash between Real Madrid and Bayern Munich in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals, amidst great anticipation from fans for a meeting that brings together two of the world's top strikers. However, they face a significant challenge in the absence of a Champions League title in their records.

Mbappé has won most possible titles with the French national team and his previous clubs, including the 2018 World Cup and the European Championship, in addition to seven French league titles, four cups, the League Cup, and four Super Cups, as well as the Intercontinental Cup and the UEFA Super Cup with Real Madrid.

Despite all this, he has yet to win the Champions League, having competed for the continental title for ten seasons without success. His most notable attempt was in the 2020 final against Bayern Munich, where the match ended with the German team's victory 1-0 with a goal by Kingsley Coman.

Even in previous editions of the tournament, Mbappé exited in the round of 16 or quarter-finals, making the Champions League the missing title in his career so far.

Mbappé enters the match with Real Madrid after a difficult period for the Spanish team, which lost to Mallorca 2-1 in the league, but coach Álvaro Arbeloa returned him to the starting lineup, where he delivered an effective performance despite not scoring in the last 11 official matches due to injury and various absences.

On the other hand, Harry Kane, who awaited his move to Bayern Munich to begin his journey of winning titles, did not achieve any championship during twelve seasons with Tottenham or during his experiences with Norwich or Millwall. He also failed with the England national team to win a continental championship despite reaching the Euro final against Italy.

With Bayern Munich, Kane added the German league title and the Super Cup, but he also did not lift the Champions League trophy, despite reaching the final in the 2018/2019 season and losing to Liverpool.

Kane's participation against Real Madrid seems certain after recovering from an ankle injury, while Mbappé quickly returned to competitive fitness after recovering from a knee injury, with Mbappé scoring 38 goals this season compared to Harry Kane's 48 goals, making them the scoring kings in Europe, but they remain without a Champions League crown.
