Raphinha's Injury and Lewandowski's Exit from the World Cup: A Double Blow to Barcelona
Wednesday 01-04-2026
Barcelona received two major setbacks during the international break, with Brazilian player Raphinha getting injured and the Polish national team, led by Robert Lewandowski, being eliminated from the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, according to the Spanish newspaper "Mundo Deportivo."

The newspaper explained that Raphinha sustained a muscle injury during his participation in the friendly match between the Brazilian national team and its French counterpart. He will be sidelined for five weeks due to an injury to the biceps femoris muscle of his right leg, representing a significant technical loss for the Catalan team.

On the other hand, Lewandowski received a strong shock after Poland's national team lost to Sweden 3-2 in the final match of the World Cup qualifying playoff, missing the World Cup for the third consecutive time. Despite playing two full matches, he became the second most participating Barcelona player during the international break, with a total of 180 minutes.

According to the Spanish newspaper, the participation of Barcelona's international players was not limited to negative aspects. Xavi Espart stood out as the player with the most participation, playing 257 minutes with Spain's under-19 team, contributing to their qualification for the European Championship, despite experiencing slight concern after being substituted in the last match against the Netherlands.

The Uruguayan defender Ronald Araújo also participated in two friendly matches against England and Algeria, totaling 135 minutes. Meanwhile, Marc Bernal made his debut with Spain's Under-21 team, contributing to victories against Cyprus and Kosovo with a total of 113 minutes played.

Coach Luis de la Fuente gave the opportunity to seven Barcelona players in the matches against Serbia and Egypt. Lamine Yamal was the most involved, playing 108 minutes, while Ferran Torres, Pedri, Dani Olmo, and Fermín López each played 90 minutes spread across the two games. Pau Cubarsi played 83 minutes against Serbia.

The newspaper added that Portuguese player João Cancelo participated for 90 minutes in his national team's matches against Mexico and the United States and will undertake a long journey back to Barcelona, while English player Marcus Rashford played 80 minutes during the matches against Uruguay and Japan.

The report indicated that Barcelona's international players will gradually return to the team in the coming days, in preparation for the match against Atletico Madrid at the Metropolitano Stadium. In this encounter, the team seeks to continue competing for the La Liga title amid concerns about the impact of fatigue resulting from the international break.
