Wednesday 01-04-2026
Portuguese star João Cancelo, on loan to Barcelona until the end of the season, has revealed the possibility of returning to Benfica in the future, confirming his readiness to reduce his salary to wear the jersey of the team he grew up with.

According to the Spanish newspaper 'Mundo Deportivo', Cancelo's future with Barcelona remains undecided, given his contract extending for an additional season with Al Hilal, which sets his release clause at about 15 million euros, while the Catalan club does not show a desire to pay a financial sum to complete the deal permanently.

Despite the player's desire to continue at Camp Nou, Cancelo conducted an interview with Canal 11, where he openly expressed his great love for Benfica, confirming that he is considering returning to them in the future.

Cancelo stated in his remarks: 'I have achieved more than I expected, but playing at Benfica is like playing basketball, it's out of love, I will reduce my salary,' clearly indicating his willingness to make concessions to return to his former club.

The newspaper added that the player's statements are not surprising, as he has always expressed his emotional connection to Benfica, considering it the club of his life, which enhances the possibility of his return in the future.

On the other hand, the Spanish newspaper clarified that Barcelona's management hopes Cancelo can terminate his contract with Al Hilal, allowing the signing to be completed without transfer fees, while keeping alternative options if the deal falters.

The report confirmed that the Catalan club is satisfied with the player's level so far, with anticipation for developments in his future during the upcoming period, as Barcelona is keen to finalize his position.
