Ghanaian Federation Negotiates with Walid Regragui to Succeed Otto Addo
Tuesday 31-03-2026
The Ghanaian journalist Gary L. Smith revealed new developments regarding the technical staff of the Ghana national team, confirming that the Ghana Football Association has entered advanced negotiations with Moroccan coach Walid Regragui to take over the leadership of the team in the upcoming phase.

This step comes following the decision to dismiss coach Otto Addo after a series of negative results, the latest being a heavy defeat in a friendly match against the German national team, prompting officials to quickly seek a suitable replacement.

The Ghanaian federation is seeking to hire a coach with extensive experience, and Regragui is currently the top choice due to his strong track record and ability to manage teams in major competitions.

This approach is based on the successes achieved by the Moroccan coach, having led his national team to a historic achievement by reaching the semi-finals of the 2022 World Cup, and then continuing his continental presence by winning the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

According to the same source, negotiations between the two parties are progressing positively, with a noticeable alignment in viewpoints, which increases the likelihood of reaching a formal agreement in the near future.

In the event the deal is completed, Regragui will face a new challenge leading the Ghana national team, in an attempt to bring the team back to strong continental and international competition in upcoming events.
