Spotify Camp Nou... Latest Developments in Renovation Works and Completion Dates
Sunday 29-03-2026
The Spanish newspaper "Marca" confirmed that the renovation works of Spotify Camp Nou, the home of FC Barcelona, are progressing steadily according to the planned timelines, with tangible progress in the execution of the ambitious project that began in June 2023.

The club continues to achieve strong results at home, having won ten matches in La Liga, three matches in the UEFA Champions League, and a match in the Copa del Rey, despite the stadium not being fully completed and currently accommodating less than half of its total capacity.

The report indicated that the first and second tiers, in addition to five VIP lounges, have been fully completed, thus surpassing phase 1C which increased the capacity to 62,657 spectators. This season does not include any additional increase in the number of seats, while the club is currently preparing the necessary reports to submit to the Barcelona municipality to request permission to gradually add seats in the third tier during the next season, with a phased return without waiting for the complete finish of the upper part of the stadium.

The report clarified that the gradual return will also allow for the expansion of the VIP area, which represents an important source of income for the club, with the number of VIP seats and spaces reaching 9,400 compared to the previous stadium. The club's management, during Joan Laporta's council, estimated that these lounges, along with new sponsorship agreements, will generate about 120 million euros annually for the club.

Approximately 3,000 workers are currently involved in constructing the upper tiers and VIP lounges. This phase is expected to continue throughout the next season, with the team continuing to play without issues. This phase is planned to extend until the summer of 2027, after which the final phase of building the upper rings and roof will begin. This final phase will last for at least four months, necessitating the team's temporary relocation from the stadium. Upon completion of the project, the stadium's capacity will reach about 105,000 seats, with expected revenues of approximately 350 million euros.

The newspaper reported that the club has prepared a project to expand the Johan Cruyff Stadium by an additional 10,000 seats, enabling it to host La Liga matches at the beginning of the 2027/2028 season. La Liga requires a minimum of 8,000 seats to host matches, and the team will return to Camp Nou once the renovations are fully completed.

The initial budget for the project was approximately 960 million euros for the stadium alone, and 1,500 million euros for the entire Espai Barça project. However, the costs have exceeded these amounts, and the club is expected to reveal the final financial details once the entire project is completed.
