Friday 27-03-2026
Ryan Bonida, the attacking midfielder star at Ajax Amsterdam, received his first call-up to the Moroccan national team in the squad preparing for upcoming international matches, after officially deciding to represent Morocco at the senior level, foregoing the opportunity to play for Belgium, which he had represented in youth categories before.

Bonida (20 years old) was born in Vilvoorde, Belgium, to Moroccan origins and began his football career at the Anderlecht Academy before joining Ajax at the age of sixteen. This season, he has established himself in the first team and made significant appearances with the Dutch club, making him a target for both the Belgian and Moroccan football federations.

After participating with Belgium's national teams from the under-16 level up to under-21, Bonida officially informed the Belgian Football Association that he chooses to play internationally with Morocco, taking advantage of his family roots. This decision garnered significant attention in the sports community, as he is considered one of the most prominent talents of Moroccan descent in Europe.

The new call-up for Bonida comes as part of the Moroccan national team's preparations for upcoming international matches, in a move expected to enhance the team's offensive options. Meanwhile, it is considered a significant loss for the Belgian team, which sought to keep the player in its ranks.
