Official Step Towards the New San Siro Stadium
Wednesday 25-03-2026
The Municipality of Milan has officially initiated the approval process for the construction of the new San Siro Stadium, marking a significant step towards launching one of the largest sports projects in Italy in the coming years.

According to "Football Italia," the city has initiated an environmental assessment process, which is one of the initial essential stages required before embarking on any major construction project, as part of a series of approvals that must be completed before construction work can begin.

The first phase of the project includes three main elements: relocating a nearby road tunnel, constructing the new stadium, and partially demolishing the current San Siro Stadium, also known as Giuseppe Meazza Stadium. Implementation will not begin until approval is obtained from the relevant regional authorities for these steps.

The San Siro area will be developed in two phases, with the first phase focusing on the construction of the new stadium, while the second phase involves the rehabilitation of the remaining part of the current stadium, including the addition of commercial facilities and extensive green spaces, among which are about 80,000 square meters of public parks that will be owned by the city.

This project follows the completion of the sale of the stadium and the surrounding area to a company wholly owned by AC Milan and Inter Milan, reflecting both parties' desire to jointly develop sports infrastructure.

Local and regional authorities are currently working to expedite the approval processes, aiming to complete them in a timely manner, in preparation for the commencement of construction in the second half of 2027.
