Vinicius Ends His Goal Drought Against Atletico Madrid
Monday 23-03-2026
Brazilian Vinicius Junior continued his brilliance with Real Madrid, after leading his team to achieve an important result in the capital derby against Atletico Madrid, as part of the Spanish League competitions, in a match that witnessed his remarkable performance by scoring a decisive brace.

The Spanish newspaper 'Mundo Deportivo' reported that Vinicius succeeded in ending his weak scoring streak against Atletico Madrid, after scoring two goals in just 20 minutes, leading coach Alvaro Arbeloa's team to continue the fight for the La Liga title with Barcelona.

Vinicius had scored a new brace, one from play and the other from a penalty, just days after his brilliant performance against Manchester City in the Champions League, where he also contributed a brace in Real Madrid's qualification to the quarter-finals at the Etihad Stadium.

According to the Spanish newspaper, the Brazilian striker raised his tally to 17 goals this season, including 12 goals scored during 2026 in various competitions, including the Champions League, the Spanish League, and the Spanish Super Cup.

Vinicius's brilliance came after a goal drought period in the league, where he failed to score in three consecutive matches against Getafe, Celta Vigo, and Elche, before regaining his shine against Atletico Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The report pointed out that Vinicius's numbers against Atletico were extremely weak before this match, as he had only scored one goal in the first 19 derbies he played against the team, in various competitions, whether in the league, the Champions League, the King's Cup, or the Spanish Super Cup.

But in this confrontation, the Brazilian star managed to score two goals within 20 minutes, breaking this scoring drought, and raising his tally to three goals in 20 derbies against Atletico Madrid.

The newspaper also explained that Vinicius's first goal came from a penalty shot past goalkeeper Musso, celebrating by waving his arms as a gesture to seek support from the fans, before adding his second goal and celebrating with a smile and a wink, expressing his great happiness.

The newspaper recalled the only goal Vinicius previously scored against Atletico, which came on January 26, 2023, during the quarter-final match of the Copa del Rey, when he scored a goal in the 121st minute, contributing to Real Madrid's 3-1 victory after extra time, and qualification to the next round.

The report confirmed that Vinicius's numbers in the derby remain limited, despite his recent improvement, as he reached only three goals in 20 matches, a number that does not reflect his significant impact, but the derby always remains a special encounter with a different character.
