Asfi Qualifies for the Confederation Cup Semi-Finals at the Expense of Wydad
Olympic Safi secured their qualification to the semi-finals of the CAF Confederation Cup after drawing 2-2 with their host Wydad Athletic Club in the second leg of the quarter-finals, which witnessed fierce competition at the Red Team's stadium.
The player Sofiane El Mouden opened the scoring for his team with a penalty kick in the 40th minute, before Mohamed Moufid equalized for Wydad in injury time of the first half. Later, Hakim Ziyech scored the equalizer in the last minute of the match.
Olympic Safi's historic qualification came by capitalizing on the aggregate score, following a 1-1 draw in the first leg, in addition to facing Wydad with ten players after goalkeeper Mehdi Benabid was sent off in the 27th minute, giving the visiting team the advantage in controlling the course of the match.
With this achievement, Olympique Safi reaches the continental semi-finals for the first time in its history, strengthening its Moroccan presence in the African championship.
