Barcelona achieved a sweeping victory over Newcastle United with a score of 7-2, in a match that not only ensured the team's qualification to the Champions League quarter-finals but also rewrote the club's historical records in the continental competition.

The Spanish newspaper 'Mundo Deportivo' reported that with this victory, Barcelona matched its largest score in the Champions League, having scored seven goals in a single match, an achievement not realized since 2016, marking the third time the team has reached this number in its more than 120-year history.

According to the same newspaper, the last time Barcelona scored seven goals was in the 2016/2017 season when they overwhelmed Scottish Celtic with a 7-0 victory in the group stage, in a match where Lionel Messi shone by scoring three goals, alongside a double from Luis Suarez and goals from Neymar and Iniesta. The team could have broken its scoring record if not for Ousmane Dembele missing a penalty during the match.

The newspaper added that the first time Barcelona reached this scoring number was in 2012, when they defeated Bayer Leverkusen 7-1 in the second leg of the round of 16, in a match that witnessed exceptional brilliance from Messi, who scored five goals, while Cristian Tello added two goals.
