Senegal Demands International Investigation After Withdrawal of Africa Cup Title
Wednesday 18-03-2026
The Senegalese government has intervened in the crisis that erupted following the African Football Confederation's decision to strip its national team of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title and award it to the Moroccan team, calling for an international investigation into the matter.

This move came after the CAF's decision to consider the Senegal national team as having lost 3-0, following their temporary withdrawal from the field during the final match, based on the tournament regulations.

In the first official response, the Senegalese government issued a statement emphasizing the need for an independent international investigation, pointing to suspicions related to the handling of the matter within the structures of the Confederation of African Football.

The statement added that the Senegalese authorities will resort to all available legal avenues, including the relevant international judicial bodies, in order to defend their position and ensure the reinstatement of the sporting result.

The government also expressed its dissatisfaction with the decision, considering it undermines the credibility of the Confederation of African Football and affects the fans' trust in continental sports institutions.

She affirmed at the conclusion of her statement her commitment to continuing legal proceedings, in pursuit of what she described as justice in this case.
