After the white team's 2-1 victory over Manchester City in the second leg of the Round of 16 at the Etihad Stadium, Arbeloa became the first coach in the history of the European Cup to eliminate both José Mourinho and Pep Guardiola, having won all the matches he faced them in during the knockout stages.

Neither Diego Simeone nor Jürgen Klopp have achieved this feat, as they have not won all their encounters with Mourinho and Guardiola.

Arbeloa's encounters against Mourinho saw Real Madrid defeat Benfica 1-0 in the away match in Lisbon and 2-1 in the return match at the Santiago Bernabéu. As for his encounters against Guardiola, the Whites won 3-0 in the first leg at the Bernabéu and repeated the victory 2-1 in the second leg at the Etihad Stadium, affirming their superiority and ability to clinch decisive matches in the UEFA Champions League.
