Officially.. Morocco Awarded Africa Cup of Nations Instead of Senegal
Wednesday 18-03-2026
In a surprising and unprecedented decision, the Appeals Committee of the Confederation of African Football announced the cancellation of the result of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final, which was between Senegal and Morocco.

This decision comes due to Senegalese players leaving the field for more than ten minutes in protest against a penalty awarded to Morocco in the final moments of the match.

Ibrahim Diaz missed the penalty, before the teams went into extra time where Senegal won 1-0.

Based on this, Senegal was considered to have lost 3-0 due to their withdrawal from the match and then returning after about 10 minutes, and the title was officially awarded in a historic and unprecedented decision.

The decision also included a series of penalties and additional amendments, most notably:

Ismail Saibari was suspended for two matches (one of which is suspended).

The financial penalty of $100,000 imposed on him was canceled.

The Moroccan Football Federation's fine in the 'ball boys' case was reduced to $50,000.

A $100,000 fine was confirmed due to interference in the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) area.

The 'laser incident' fine was reduced to $10,000.
