The German coach Hans Flick faces several challenges when selecting the starting lineup, as the list includes confirmed absences due to injuries, most notably Alejandro Balde, Koundé, Frenkie de Jong, and Andreas Christensen. The coach must also monitor the status of players threatened with suspension due to yellow cards.

Currently, four players are under the threat of a yellow card: Lamine Yamal, Fermín López, Gerard Martin, and Marc Casado. If any of them receive a yellow card in the match against Newcastle, they will not be able to participate in the potential first leg of the quarter-finals should Barcelona qualify.

Mundo Deportivo explained that Yamal, who recently completed his previous suspension, and Fermín and Gerard Martin are candidates to start, while Casado is expected to begin on the bench. Any absence of these four would significantly impact Flick's plans in the upcoming league.

The Spanish source also noted that Dani Olmo, along with the injured Balde and Koundé, have received one yellow card in the current edition of the tournament. If they receive a second card against Newcastle, they will also be threatened with suspension.

It is worth noting that yellow cards are wiped clean starting from the semi-finals, so players under threat must avoid cautions in the next three matches to ensure their presence in the decisive games.
