Statistics Favor Barcelona Ahead of Newcastle Clash

Barcelona is preparing to welcome Newcastle at Spotify Camp Nou, in the second leg of the round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League, amidst positive indicators favoring the Catalan team.

According to the Spanish newspaper 'Mundo Deportivo,' Barcelona holds a clear historical advantage before this encounter, whether in terms of direct results against Newcastle or its strong record against English clubs at home.

The first leg ended in a 1-1 draw at St. James' Park, after Lamine Yamal scored the equalizing goal from a penalty in injury time, following a foul on Dani Olmo.

Barcelona enters the match in good technical and physical condition, after coach Hans Flick adopted a rotation policy against Sevilla, along with high morale following a big 5-2 victory.

The newspaper explained that Barcelona has previously faced Newcastle twice at home, winning both matches, the first with a score of 1-0 in the 1997/1998 season, and the second with a score of 3-1 during the 2022/2003 season.

The newspaper also pointed out that the Catalan team has not suffered any defeat at home against English clubs in the last 14 matches, achieving 9 victories and 5 draws, which boosts its chances of securing qualification.

It added that Barcelona's last home loss to an English team dates back to the 2006/2007 season, when they fell to Liverpool with a score of 2-1 in the first leg of the round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League.

If the second leg ends in a draw, the teams will resort to extra time, based on the first leg result, according to the Spanish newspaper.
