After the cancellation of the Finalissima match between Argentina and Spain, Lionel Scaloni, the coach of the Argentine national team, found himself in a predicament, as he was left without friendly matches to test the players before the 2026 World Cup.

Scaloni had announced a preliminary list of players in preparation for the match, with the aim of informing clubs about the possibility of calling up their players. However, the cancellation of the encounter put this plan on hold, and the friendly match that was scheduled against Qatar is no longer possible due to the conflict in the Middle East.

The Argentine Football Association tried to find alternatives such as playing the match in Madrid or other cities in Europe, or even organizing home and away matches, but the proposals were not accepted by UEFA, leading to the final cancellation according to Argentine media, which contradicts what UEFA stated.

The options now available to Scaloni are either to look for an alternative opponent to make use of the international break or to continue the training camp in Ezeiza for ten days with the selected players, with the possibility of holding a local friendly match later.
