Al Hilal Criticizes Foreign Refereeing in Roshan League
Sunday 15-03-2026
On Sunday, Al-Hilal Saudi Club expressed its dissatisfaction through an official statement regarding the selection process of foreign refereeing teams managing the Roshn Saudi League matches, emphasizing that the current mechanism raises many questions.

The club clarified that this decision came after the issue was repeated in several matches this season, the most recent being the team's encounter against Al-Fateh, which ended with Al-Hilal winning 1-0.

Al Hilal Club confirmed in its statement its commitment to bear the high financial costs associated with bringing in foreign referees, in response to the requirements of the Referees Committee of the Saudi Arabian Football Federation.

The club explained that the aim of this step is to bring elite referees from around the world, which would enhance the level of competition and align with the significant development that football in Saudi Arabia has recently witnessed.

The statement pointed out that the continued reliance on mid-level foreign refereeing teams raises legitimate questions about the selection criteria, especially as the tournament approaches its decisive stages.

Al-Hilal emphasized that relying on local referees for its matches has become difficult at present, due to repeated impactful refereeing decisions in previous competitive matches.

The club concluded its statement by emphasizing the need to reconsider the mechanism for selecting foreign referees, ensuring the recruitment of individuals with the necessary experience and competence to keep up with the strength of competition in the league.
