Referee for Barcelona vs Sevilla in La Liga
Saturday 14-03-2026
The Referees Committee of the Spanish Football Federation announced the appointment of referee Juan Martinez Munuera to officiate the match between Barcelona and Sevilla, scheduled to take place on Sunday at Spotify Camp Nou as part of the La Liga competition.

Munuera's name returns to the spotlight in Barcelona matches, having been the field referee in the encounter that saw the cancellation of defender Pau Cubarsi's goal during the first leg of the Copa del Rey semi-final against Atletico Madrid at the Metropolitano Stadium.

Although that match ended with Atletico Madrid winning 4-0, the controversy continued over the canceled goal, especially after Barcelona won the return leg at Camp Nou 3-0, where Barcelona's sporting director Deco pointed to that controversial moment.

Cubarsi's goal was canceled after a review that lasted about seven minutes through the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology, supervised by referee Pablo Gonzalez Fuertes, before Munuera decided there was an offside on the Barcelona player.

The Technical Committee of Referees later clarified that there was a malfunction in the modeling system for drawing offside lines, which forced the referees to manually draw the lines to determine the situation.

This is the third match Munuera will officiate for Barcelona this season, after leading the team's match against Real Oviedo in La Liga on January 25, which ended with a 3-0 victory for the Catalan team.

Overall, the 43-year-old referee has officiated 35 matches for Barcelona in various competitions, during which the Catalan team achieved 22 victories, 6 draws, and 6 losses.

As for Sevilla, Munuera has officiated 36 matches for them, in which the Andalusian team secured 20 victories, 6 draws, and suffered 10 losses.

Referee Javier Iglesias is set to take charge of the VAR technology during this match.
