Saturday 14-03-2026
Peter Korkis, a player for Duhok Club and the Iraqi national team, confirmed that stability and adaptation to the atmosphere of the Iraqi Stars League played the biggest role in his outstanding performance this season.

Korkis is considered one of the standout players in the league this season, having participated in 20 matches with Duhok, scoring 11 goals, and assisting 4 goals for his teammates after 22 rounds of the championship.

Korkis said in his interview with winwin: "I don't see a specific secret behind my improved performance, but my second season in the league gave me greater confidence and full adaptation to the nature of the competition."

He added: "My shooting ability has always been one of my strengths, but it became more evident this season and contributed to the team's results, and I'm very happy about that."

The player pointed out that his first season in the league was a phase of adaptation: "Last season was somewhat difficult, I had to get to know the atmosphere of the championship and the nature of the competition, and everything was new to me."

He continued: "But now, I know where to move on the field and how to take advantage of spaces to get shooting opportunities, and I am in complete harmony with my teammates and the atmosphere of the Iraqi Stars League."

Regarding the possibility of his call-up to the national team to play the global playoff match qualifying for the World Cup, Korkis said: "I don't know yet if I am on the national team's list, and we will wait for the official announcement soon. I have indeed completed my visa procedures, and I will be ready for any decision. If I am not included, I will proudly support Iraq as a fan."

The player concluded his talk with a message to Iraqi fans: "I say to all our fans that we are going to the World Cup, continue to support us as you always have. The love for football here is different, and I am proud to belong to this country and this wonderful team."

Peter Korkis joined the Iraqi national team on December 22, 2024, after transferring his file from the Swedish federation, where he previously represented the age group teams in Sweden, and has participated in 3 official matches with the Lions of Mesopotamia so far.
