Inter Milan's Stance on Renewing Chivu's Contract
The Italian newspaper 'La Gazzetta dello Sport' confirmed that Inter Milan intends to renew the contract of its coach Cristian Chivu, whose current contract will expire at the end of the 2026/2027 season, following the impressive performance the coach delivered in his first season with the team.
Chivu, aged 45, is credited with bringing Inter back from disappointment after a heavy 5-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final last season. Within ten months, the coach succeeded in developing a team that is currently leading the Italian league table by seven points with 10 rounds remaining in the season.
The Italian newspaper noted that some recent reports linked the 1-0 loss to Milan last week with increased pressure on Inter, but this pressure falls more on the players than on coach Chivu.
The coach had signed a short-term contract when he took over last summer, extending for two seasons until the end of the 2026/2027 season, which means he will enter the final season of his contract this summer, despite widespread expectations that he will lead the team to win the Italian league title in the 2025/2026 season.
The newspaper added that extending Chivu's contract has become a necessity for Inter Milan, indicating that the contract may be extended until the end of the 2027/2028 season with an option for an additional season, to ensure the coach's continued presence with the team after the outstanding performance he delivered during his first full season.
