Saturday 14-03-2026
Al-Zawraa fell into the draw trap against its guest Naft Maysan with a 1–1 result in the match that took place on Friday evening at Al-Zawraa Stadium, as part of the 22nd round of the Iraqi Stars League.

The two teams entered the match with different ambitions, as Al-Zawraa sought to achieve victory and reduce the gap with the leading teams, while Naft Maysan tried to come out with a positive result to boost its chances of moving away from the lower positions.

The match started at a moderate pace with a relative advantage for Al-Zawraa, which succeeded in opening the scoring in the 37th minute through its striker Brian Riascos, after exploiting one of the offensive opportunities to give his team the lead in the score.

However, the course of the match witnessed a significant shift before the end of the first half, as the match referee showed a direct red card to Al-Zawraa defender Abdullah Naseeb from Jordan in the 42nd minute, leaving the hosts to complete the match with a numerical disadvantage.

Naft Maysan quickly took advantage of this numerical superiority, managing to equalize in the 44th minute through player Alaa Saad, ending the first half with a positive 1–1 draw between the two teams.

At the start of the second half, Al-Zawraa, despite the numerical disadvantage, tried to return to offensive pressure in search of scoring the second goal, creating several offensive attempts hoping to snatch the lead.

In the 86th minute, Al-Zawraa thought it had succeeded in scoring the lead goal when player Hiran Azad shook the net, but the match referee decided to cancel the goal due to offside, keeping the score unchanged.

Minutes before the end of the match, Naft Maysan defender Hussein Matar received a red card in the 89th minute after receiving a second warning, leaving both teams to complete the final minutes with ten players each.

With this result, Al-Zawraa raised its tally to 36 points in eighth place in the Iraqi Stars League standings, officially distancing itself from competing for the advanced positions this season.

On the other hand, Naft Maysan reached 20 points in eighteenth place, after successfully coming out with a valuable point from Al-Zawraa Stadium in a match characterized by excitement and competitiveness until its final minutes.
