European History Supports Real Madrid After Victory Against Manchester City
Thursday 12-03-2026
The Spanish newspaper "Mundo Deportivo" confirmed that Real Madrid has taken a strong step towards the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League after defeating Manchester City 3-0 at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, ahead of the second leg scheduled for March 17, 2026.

The newspaper explained that European history is on the side of the Royal Club, as Real Madrid has never been eliminated in continental tournaments after winning the first leg by a margin of three goals or more. This has been the case in 35 such encounters, all of which the team successfully overcame.

Mundo Deportivo pointed out that Wednesday's victory over City was Real Madrid's second-largest win against a team led by coach Pep Guardiola, following the 4-0 win over Bayern Munich in the 2014 UEFA Champions League season.

The newspaper added that Guardiola recorded his fourth loss at the Bernabeu, all of which were in the Champions League. The first was with Bayern Munich, 1-0 in 2014, and the latest was yesterday, Wednesday. His total visits to the Bernabeu now stand at 15, during which he achieved 7 wins, 4 draws, and 4 losses.
