Referee for the Barcelona vs Newcastle Match in the UEFA Champions League
The UEFA has announced the appointment of Italian referee Marco Guida to officiate the match between Newcastle United and Barcelona, scheduled for next Tuesday as part of the UEFA Champions League competition.
The match between Newcastle United and Barcelona is expected to take place as part of the first leg of the Round of 16 in the UEFA Champions League, with the 44-year-old Italian referee Marco Guida in charge.
Guida will be assisted on the lines by Giorgio Peretti and Giuseppe Peretti, while Matteo Marcenaro will be the fourth official, and Italian Daniele Chiffi will be responsible for the video technology.
The appointment of Guida brings back an unpleasant memory for Barcelona, as the only previous match he officiated for the Catalan team ended in their loss to Royal Antwerp 3-2 on December 13, 2023.
The Italian referee has never officiated a match for Newcastle, but he previously refereed a match for Real Madrid against Kairat Almaty last September, which ended with the Spanish team winning 5-0, where the video technology canceled a penalty against Real Madrid that Guida had awarded when the score was 2-0 in favor of the Royal team.
