Arbeloa Considers Relying on Duo Against Manchester City
Saturday 07-03-2026
The French defender Ferland Mendy started for Real Madrid in their match against Celta Vigo last night, as part of the 27th round of the Spanish League, benefiting from the absence of Álvaro Carreras due to suspension.

According to the newspaper "Marca," coach Álvaro Arbeloa decided to play Mendy in the left-back position, despite his limited appearances this season, after seeing him as a suitable option to curb the threat of Celta Vigo's attack.

The report added that the French defender delivered a strong performance during the match, as he is known for his defensive solidity whether he is in peak physical condition or not, which makes him completely different from the attacking style offered by Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Arbeloa is considering relying on Mendy as a starter in the upcoming match against Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday, especially given the doubts about Carreras' readiness. The coach also plans to use Tiago Bitarich against City instead of Eduardo Camavinga.
