Al-Zawraa Escapes Defeat Against Mosul in the League
The Mosul team snatched a dramatic and valuable draw against Al-Zawraa with a result of (1-1), in an exciting match hosted by the Iraqi Stars League, which witnessed dramatic events until the last seconds, leaving each team with a point, but with completely different tastes.
Al-Zawraa entered the match with a clear determination to settle the confrontation early, imposing its superiority from the first minutes of the match, with high pressure and good distribution in the midfield, allowing it to control the ball and threaten Mosul's goal early on.
In the sixth minute, Colombian Riascos managed to hit the net after an organized offensive move, but the referee canceled the goal on the grounds of offside, postponing the white team's joy and keeping the score unchanged.
This early warning was only a prelude to a deserved goal, as Riascos returned to confirm his danger in the 21st minute when he scored the first goal for Al-Zawraa, giving his team the advantage that reflected the course of the match at that stage.
After the goal, Al-Zawraa continued to impose its rhythm on the match, benefiting from the movements of its players on the flanks and depth, while Mosul was content with defensive positioning and trying to absorb the offensive momentum, ending the first half with Al-Zawraa leading by one goal without reply.

Al-Zawraa, in turn, sought to manage the match and maintain its lead, but it did not succeed in capitalizing on some opportunities that presented themselves to enhance the result, keeping the confrontation open to all possibilities until the final minutes.
And when the match was heading towards a white victory whistle, the referee awarded a penalty to Mosul in the 90th minute, amid objections from Al-Zawraa players. Aladdin Dali stepped up to execute it, succeeding in scoring the equalizer, igniting the atmosphere in the stands and on the field.
The excitement reached its peak in stoppage time, as Mosul was awarded a second penalty in the 96th minute, giving them a historic opportunity to turn the tables and achieve an unprecedented victory over Al-Zawraa. However, Dali this time did not succeed in converting it into a goal, losing the chance for victory and settling for a valuable point.
With this draw, Al-Zawraa raised its tally to 34 points in eighth place, continuing the team's struggles this season, amid popular demands to correct the course and regain balance in the upcoming rounds.
On the other hand, Mosul reached 23 points in fifteenth place, achieving a draw considered historic for them against one of the most prestigious clubs in Iraqi football, and was on the verge of achieving a great victory were it not for the missed last penalty.
