Lewandowski Plans to Return Against Athletic Bilbao
Sunday 01-03-2026
Barcelona received another blow ahead of their match against Atlético Madrid, as it was confirmed that their Polish striker Robert Lewandowski will be absent due to injury, at a time when the team needs to score at least four goals without conceding any.

The Spanish newspaper "Mundo Deportivo" reported that the medical examinations undergone by Lewandowski revealed a bone fracture on the inner side of his left eye socket, preventing him from participating against Atlético Madrid, especially since the injury is recent and does not allow him to play with a protective mask in less than 48 hours.

The newspaper, citing the player's entourage, explained that Lewandowski has already started considering returning to help the team next Saturday at San Mamés Stadium against Athletic Bilbao. He plans to play the match with a protective mask, similar to what Pau Cubarsi and Eric Garcia did this season after sustaining facial injuries.

The report confirmed that the player wanted to participate in the crucial match against Atletico, but doctors advised him not to take the risk due to the recent fracture. He is expected to be ready to return under coach Hans Flick in the match against Athletic Bilbao, with his condition improving and the availability of a protective mask, to help defend the team's lead.
