Agreement on Legislation of Vinicius Law Against Racism
Saturday 28-02-2026
The newspaper AS revealed an agreement between the International Football Committee and the International Federation of Football to implement what is known as the "Vinicius Law," in a new step to combat racism in stadiums.

The decision stipulates that players are prohibited from covering their mouths while speaking to the opponent, with the aim of enhancing transparency on the field and preventing the passing of any racist remarks away from the eyes of the referee or broadcast cameras.

The law is set to be implemented before the start of the World Cup next summer, and any player who deliberately violates the new instructions may face a penalty that could reach a yellow card.

This move comes after the incident involving Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior during the first leg of the playoff against Benfica, which qualifies for the Champions League round of 16. Benfica player Gianluca Prestianni covered his mouth while speaking, amid accusations of making racist remarks against the Brazilian player.

This decision is expected to send a clear message that global football is moving towards tightening measures to protect players and enforce a more respectful environment on the pitch.
