In the second half, Villarreal reduced the deficit when Pape Gueye scored their first goal in the 49th minute. However, Lamine Yamal returned to reaffirm Barcelona's dominance by scoring the third goal in the 69th minute, completing his hat-trick in the match.

Barcelona did not settle for this result and continued their attempts on Villarreal's goal until they succeeded in scoring the fourth goal in the 90+2 minute through Robert Lewandowski.

With this victory, Barcelona increased its tally to 64 points, leading the Spanish league standings, while Villarreal remained at 51 points in third place.
