Sudanese Al-Hilal Faces Crisis Before Facing Renaissance Berkane
Friday 27-02-2026
Al-Hilal of Sudan has entered a crisis ahead of its anticipated match against Renaissance Berkane in the quarter-finals of the African Champions League, due to a dispute over the timing of one of its local matches.

The Rwandan Football Association's competitions committee rejected Al Hilal's request to postpone or reschedule their match against Mukura in the 23rd round of the league. They confirmed that it will take place on Sunday, March 1st, at the scheduled time.

The Sudanese club had requested to hold its matches during the month of Ramadan at night, justifying this by wanting to avoid physical fatigue for its players from playing during the day. However, their request was denied.

These developments place Al Hilal in front of complex choices, as any decision not to play league matches could expose them to sporting and administrative penalties, in addition to affecting the team's readiness before continental commitments.

The first leg match against Renaissance Berkane is scheduled to take place on March 13 at the Municipal Stadium in the city of Berkane, with the return leg set for March 21 at the Amahoro Stadium in the Rwandan capital, Kigali, in a decisive encounter for a spot in the semifinals.
