Toney Challenges Ronaldo: League Title First and Golden Boot is a Legitimate Goal
Thursday 26-02-2026
The English international Ivan Toney, striker for Al-Ahli Saudi FC, ignites the race for top scorer in the Saudi Pro League, as he enters a direct competition with Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo of Al-Nassr for the Golden Boot award this season, in a contest that might prevent "CR7" from making new history in the league.

Ronaldo had won the Golden Boot in the last two seasons, and if he wins the award for the third consecutive time, he will become the first European player in the history of the Saudi Professional League to achieve this feat.

However, Tony currently tops the goal-scoring chart with 23 goals, leading by two goals over the Al-Nassr captain, which intensifies the competition as the season approaches its decisive stages.

In statements to "talkSPORT," Toney expressed great confidence in his scoring abilities, stating: "Every time I step onto the field, I feel like I'm going to score a goal. I have this confidence at the moment."

He added that having a decisive striker who consistently scores gives the team a strong boost, especially given Al Ahly's advanced position in the league standings.

Despite recognizing the value of surpassing one of the greatest football players in history, Toni emphasized that winning the league title remains the ultimate goal, saying: "Of course, you want to score goals as a striker, but the more you score, the better our chances of winning matches, and this also helps us in the league race. So, that is my main objective."
