Newcastle United achieved a significant victory over Qarabag with a score of 6-1 in the first leg of the playoff qualifying for the round of 16 in the UEFA Champions League.

Anthony Gordon opened the scoring early in the third minute, before Malick Thiaw added the second goal in the ninth minute.

Gordon returned to score the third goal in the 32nd minute from a penalty kick, then scored the fourth goal in the 34th minute, before concluding the first half with the fifth goal in the 45+1 minute from another penalty kick.

In the second half, Elvin Cafarquliyev scored Qarabag's only goal in the 56th minute, while Jacob Murphy added Newcastle's sixth goal in the 73rd minute.

The two teams are scheduled to meet in the return match on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at James Park Stadium.
