Benatia Stays, Bai Nears Coaching Marseille
Tuesday 17-02-2026
Olympique Marseille has undergone significant changes following the announcement of Moroccan Mehdi Benatia's resignation from the position of Director of Football on Sunday, which had threatened the stability of the coaching staff.

However, Benatia confirmed on Tuesday that he would remain in his position until the end of the season, which gave a boost to the file of appointing the Senegalese Habib Beye as the team's coach.

Baye, the former team defender, had been waiting since Benatia announced his resignation, as the two were scheduled to meet on Monday to finalize the deal as a replacement for Roberto De Zerbi.

Benatia's comment temporarily halted the process and forced Bay to wait two days until matters were clarified at the club's senior management level.

With Benatia being confirmed in his position, Bai is expected to complete negotiations and officially join to take over coaching the team, in preparation for the upcoming matches in the French league. This step reflects the club's desire to achieve technical stability after a series of repeated administrative changes.

The last remaining issue is the administrative aspect, where Bai is expected to participate in a video call with the legal committee of the French Football Federation (LFP) to resolve any issues related to his former club, Rennes, before the final announcement of him officially taking up his position.
