Rayo Vallecano caused a major surprise in La Liga after achieving a strong victory over Atletico Madrid with a score of 3-0, in the 24th round match of La Liga held today, Sunday. The home team succeeded in imposing their control over the match despite the significant differences on paper between the two teams. 

Fran Perez scored the first goal in the 40th minute, before Oscar Valentin added the second goal a few minutes later, taking advantage of a rebound inside the penalty area. In the second half, Nobel Mendy secured the victory with a third goal in the 76th minute from a set piece, confirming Rayo's superiority and ending Atletico's hopes of a comeback. 

Diego Simeone's team tried to press in the second half and created chances to reduce the deficit, but Rayo's organized defense and the goalkeeper prevented the net from shaking. This victory gave Rayo a strong boost in their struggle to escape the relegation zone, while Atletico stumbled in the race for the top positions. 

With this result, Atletico dropped to fourth place in the La Liga standings, while Rayo moved two points away from the relegation zone, reigniting the battle at both the bottom and top of the standings.
