Serious Error in the Report of the Atletico Madrid vs Barcelona Match
Friday 13-02-2026
The Atletico Madrid vs Barcelona match in the first leg of the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey witnessed widespread refereeing controversy that did not stop at the decisions during the match but extended to the official match report.

According to the Spanish newspaper 'Mundo Deportivo', referee Juan Martinez Munuera made an error in the report, indicating that Giuliano Simeone was the scorer of Atletico Madrid's third goal, instead of Lookman who actually scored the third goal.

The semi-automatic offside system was not activated during the disallowed goal incident for Kouparsi, which angered Barcelona, prompting them to consider filing an official complaint to the Spanish Football Federation, due to the refereeing performance during the match, which also saw intervention from VAR referee Pablo Gonzalez Fortes.

The report clarified that Giuliano Simeone had started the attack and exchanged the ball with Julian Alvarez before the Nigerian player scored the third goal, yet the official report mistakenly attributed the goal to Giuliano.

Although this error does not affect the match result and can be corrected, it serves as a new indicator of the errors witnessed in the encounter, both on the field and in officially documenting its events.
