Jesus Dismisses Al-Nassr's Star Players Ahead of Arkadag Match
Tuesday 10-02-2026
Portuguese coach Jorge Jesus, the manager of Al-Nassr Club, made a surprising decision to exclude a large number of prominent names from the team's trip to Turkmenistan to face Arkadag in an Asian competition.

Jesus preferred to play the first leg of the AFC Champions League Round of 16 with a limited squad, deciding not to bring most of the foreign players for the anticipated match against Arkadag.

The Al-Nassr coach included only three foreign players in the squad: Brazilian Matheus Pinto, his compatriot Angelo Gabriel, and Iraqi Haider Abdul Karim, according to Al-Riyadiyah newspaper.

The sources indicated that the list included six members from the under-21 youth team, in a move aimed at giving them the opportunity for continental exposure.

The Al-Nassr squad traveling to face Arkadag includes names such as Matheus Pinto, Nawaf Boushal, Abdul-Ilah Al-Amri, Ali Al-Hassan, Abdullah Al-Khaibari, Abdulrahman Gharib, Abdullah Al-Hamdan, along with the rest of the selected players.

On the other hand, several of the team's stars were absent from the match, most notably Cristiano Ronaldo, Sadio Mane, Marcelo Brozovic, Kingsley Coman, Joao Felix, and Inigo Martinez, due to a technical decision by Jesus.

The absence also included Mohamed Simakan, Sultan Al-Ghannam, and Nawaf Al-Aqidi, leading Al-Nassr to play the match with a lineup predominantly featuring local and young players.
