Eric Garcia Boosts His Chances for World Cup 2026
Monday 09-02-2026
Eric Garcia continues to deliver strong performances with Barcelona under the leadership of coach Hans Flick, becoming one of the team's standout players this season, having played 55 consecutive matches without absence. This enhances his chances of returning to the Spanish national team and participating in the 2026 World Cup, according to the Spanish newspaper 'Mundo Deportivo'.

The newspaper pointed out that Eric Garcia confirmed his essential place during the recent match against Real Mallorca, as he has not missed any of Barcelona's 36 matches this season, accumulating more than 2700 minutes of play out of a possible 3240, reflecting his high consistency and leadership role within the team.

The Spanish defender is a versatile option for Hans Flick, as he can play in the center-back positions, both right and left full-back positions, in addition to the defensive midfield position. He also enjoys a high passing accuracy ranging between 89% and 91% in various competitions, reaching 90.5% in the Champions League after completing 468 successful passes out of 506.

The report explained that the presence of Eric Garcia on the field positively reflects on Barcelona's defensive solidity, as the team concedes an average of only 0.83 goals per match when he participates, alongside his good numbers in ball recoveries and defensive interventions.

Internationally, the newspaper mentioned that Eric Garcia, despite his recent absence from the Spanish national team, previously appeared with his national team in 2020, participated in Euro 2020, the Tokyo Olympics, and was included in the 2022 World Cup squad without playing any minutes.
