Endrick.. A Young Star Revives a Prestigious Club
Wednesday 04-02-2026
In July 2025, Olympique Lyon was on the brink of administrative relegation to the French second division due to a severe financial crisis that nearly threatened its history. The club was forced to part with several of its prominent stars, such as Cherki and Lacazette, in addition to the departure of Mikautadze on the last day of the transfer window.

Months after the storm, the club began to regain its balance with Michele Kang taking over as club president, succeeding John Textor. The financial situation stabilized, and an exceptional opportunity emerged in the winter transfer market: the loan of Endrick from Real Madrid, due to his limited playing time with the royal team.

Lyon intensified its efforts to complete the deal, with coach Paulo Fonseca playing a crucial role after personally reaching out to the player. A single call was enough to convince the Brazilian talent that Lyon was the best place to regain his form. In December, the two clubs reached an agreement to loan Endrick until the end of the season without a purchase option.

The announcement of the deal caused an unprecedented stir in France, with interactions on social media exceeding 16 million, and the club's popularity noticeably increased. Endrick wasted no time in making his mark, scoring in his first 45 minutes wearing Lyon's jersey during his debut against Lille on January 11, contributing to an important away victory.

Since his arrival, Lyon has achieved four consecutive victories without any losses, with Endrick being a crucial element in all of them. He continued to shine in the French league by assisting a goal in his first Ligue 1 match, before further rising to prominence by scoring his first career hat-trick against Metz, becoming the youngest Brazilian player to achieve this and the youngest player in Lyon's history to score a hat-trick.

Endrick's numbers reflect the extent of his rapid impact: four goals and one assist in just four matches, making him the highest-scoring debutant in the club's history. This brilliance has also been reflected off the field, with a significant jump in shirt sales, large crowds attending training sessions, and a noticeable increase in viewership of Lyon's matches within Brazil.

Despite opponents' attempts to limit his threat, as happened in the recent match against Lille, Endrick continues to fight until the last moment. With the absence of a purchase option in the loan contract, his return to Real Madrid next summer seems to be the most likely scenario, despite his hint that the future is "in God's hands."

With Endrick, Olympique Lyon dreams of breaking a 14-year title drought, especially as they lead their group in the Europa League and continue their journey in the French Cup. A young star who has breathed new life into a prestigious club... and made the impossible seem possible.
