FC Barcelona officially announced the renewal of young defender Andres Cuenca's contract with the club until the summer of 2027, before he is loaned out to Sporting Gijon to develop his skills in a new professional environment.

Cuenca belongs to Barcelona B and has proven his potential as a promising defender within the academy ranks. Therefore, the club decided to extend his contract and give him the opportunity to gain initial experience in the Spanish second division.

The move to Sporting Gijón on loan provides him with important playing time and increases his chances of development before returning to Barcelona or moving to a higher level in the future.

This announcement comes at a time when Cuenca's name was linked to news of a potential transfer to the Italian club Como. However, the official agreement issued today clarifies that the current option is to move on loan to Gijón after the renewal.
