Thursday 29-01-2026
Liam Rosenior, Chelsea's coach, expressed his great happiness with his team's direct qualification to the Round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League after the recent victory, affirming that the team delivered an outstanding performance and showed strong spirit, especially in the second half.

Rosenior said: "I thought the players' character, their resilience in the second half, and their reaction after falling behind was very positive, all the things I ask for were there."

He continued: "I wanted us to play offensively in the first half, we had moments with the full-backs in their half, but at the same time, the distances were too large, we corrected that in the second half and made some changes in the formation."

He added: "Joao Pedro scored great goals in a fantastic performance from him, he has provided that for me since I arrived at the club, overall, we are qualified, and we are very happy with that."

Regarding the difficulty of direct qualification and the importance of avoiding playoff matches, he said: "This is very important for us because we will really be able to work with the players on the training ground, due to the match schedule which means we played, recovered, prepared for a match, and then went again."

He continued: "I can conduct their training and make them fitter as well, and that will be good, we must enjoy these moments, but we want more, we have some big matches coming up, starting with facing West Ham on Saturday."

He concluded his statements by talking about the team's ambition in the Champions League: "You are in the Champions League, and to win this tournament, you must beat the best, no matter which team we face, we will do our utmost, I'm just happy we qualified in this way."
