Carrasco Presses to Leave Al-Shabab and Insists on Moving to Roma
Belgian player Yannick Carrasco, currently with Saudi club Al-Shabab, has expressed a strong desire to join Italian club AS Roma during the current winter transfer window, in a move aimed at returning to competition in the major European leagues.
According to the sports newspaper, Carrasco showed great flexibility to complete the deal, having decided to forgo 6.5 million euros from his current salary with Al Shabab Club to facilitate his transfer to the Italian team during the January window.
The newspaper indicated that negotiations are still ongoing between the managements of Al-Shabab and Roma, as the Al-Shabab management insists on receiving financial compensation for loaning the player, despite Carrasco's clear desire to experience European football.
Carrasco's insistence on leaving comes after the stance of the Belgian national team coach, Rudi Garcia, who confirmed that no player not participating in the top five leagues would be included in the national team for the World Cup scheduled for next June. This prompted the player to demand a quick departure.
The newspaper concluded its report by noting the presence of a clause in Carrasco's contract with Al-Shabab, which stipulates an automatic extension for an additional season if he participates in more than 50% of the current season's matches. This condition has already been met, further complicating the negotiation situation among all parties involved.
