Spalletti: We Will Play the Match Without Pressure, and This is Openda's Position
Tuesday 27-01-2026
Luciano Spalletti, the head coach of Juventus, confirmed making numerous changes to his team's lineup during the match against Monaco, as part of the last round of the league phase in the UEFA Champions League.

Spalletti said in the press conference: "There is no better way to prove our current level than this match."

He added: "We are not suffering from the tension of needing to achieve a result, so let's see what we can offer when we are mentally free."

He continued: "Monaco will not enter the match with calculations, they cannot retreat and wait, while we are playing for victory and ambition to achieve more, I expect an open and enjoyable match against a strong opponent."

Regarding the expected changes, Spalletti explained: "We played two days ago and will play again in two days, so there will be some adjustments, Koopmeiners will play in midfield, while Bremer and Gatti need to be assessed in terms of physical readiness."

He confirmed Louis Openda's starting position by saying: "Openda will start in the attack line, if you give him space, he can overcome the difficulties he faces in scoring, I am curious to see the team without the worry of needing to achieve a result at all costs."

He added: "We are in the best possible position in the Champions League without the pressure of the mandatory three points, I will make some changes, but I still want to see a high level of performance."

Regarding the moment he was seen patting Openda's cheek before he entered against Napoli, Spalletti commented: "The meaning does not lie in the words as much as it lies in the relationship that connects you with the players, which sometimes allows for more assertive expression."

He added: "It may be interpreted differently from the outside, but internally this is our daily way of working."

He continued: "Openda is a player with clear potential, but he carries the personality of a nice boy which may limit him a bit, he feels the pressure and finds it difficult to relax on the field."

He concluded: "I believe that with the right space, he will overcome these difficulties sooner or later, and perhaps tomorrow is the right time for that."
