Doku Supports Guardiola and Confirms Readiness for Galatasaray Clash
Manchester City player Jeremy Doku spoke during the press conference held today, Tuesday, ahead of his team's match against Turkish side Galatasaray, as part of the eighth round of the league stage in the UEFA Champions League, scheduled to take place at the Etihad Stadium tomorrow, Wednesday.
Doku referred to his agreement with his coach Pep Guardiola regarding the recent criticism of refereeing, especially after Manchester City's match against Wolverhampton in the English Premier League, affirming his full support for the coach's decisions concerning the team.
Regarding the importance of finishing the league stage in the top eight, Doku said: "It's very important, I think being in the top eight means not having to play two matches."
He added: "With the number of remaining matches, playing two fewer games will be in our favor. All we want is to win this match and control the proceedings."
Regarding his recent injury: "I suffered a knee injury against Manchester United, which prevented me from playing in Norway against Bodo/Glimt, because I was still feeling pain. That was the reason for my absence, but I feel better now."
About the tackle by Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot, Doku replied: "I don't know in general, but speaking about that tackle, it was painful. I didn't ask the referee why he didn't receive another card, all I know is that it was painful. I think you know how I feel about that."
He confirmed: "I could have been out for a long time due to the injury, but that's what happened. I didn't play in Norway, and it's over. I don't want to delve into details because it's in the past. Thank God I wasn't seriously injured and I'm able to play now, that's the only thing I can focus on now."
He explained: "I know myself and my personality well, I'm not the type to simulate falls. If I fell to the ground, it's because something happened. It's their responsibility to determine whether it deserves a yellow or red card, or if it was a foul or not, that's their job."
Regarding his stance on Arsenal's loss to Manchester United, Doku said laughing: "It's hard to describe my feeling, it's not that I'm happy, honestly, I didn't watch the match, but I saw they lost."
He added: "I know there are many matches in this tournament, and we lost to Manchester United, but they played excellently, we weren't at our best. We still have many matches ahead, we just have to focus on ourselves and do our duty."
He pointed out: "We will still face Arsenal too, so many things will happen. I wasn't really focused on that, but if they lose, it will definitely be better for us."
About his performance this season, he added: "I feel I'm performing better this season, and let's wait and see what it brings us, but I believe this season will be better on an individual level than the previous two seasons with Manchester City, for sure."
