Why Does Spalletti Need a New Striker at Juventus?
Monday 26-01-2026
Luciano Spalletti, the coach of Juventus, is seeking to sign a new striker during the current transfer window, despite the improved performance of Canadian striker Jonathan David, who has started to establish himself in the team's starting lineup.

David, the Canadian international, has scored three goals and assisted one in the last four Serie A matches, following criticism he faced for missing a penalty against Lecce. However, Spalletti clarified in his statements to the Italian press that the team needs an additional striker with physical strength and the ability to engage with opposing defenders, which differs from David's role who excels at scoring but does not cover this aspect.

Spalletti added: "David is excellent at scoring, but we also need a player capable of handling the physical challenges against defenders. The new striker will be able to create space for his teammates in attack, including David himself."

The search for a new striker also comes due to Dusan Vlahovic's absence due to injury until mid-February or March, and his contract is set to expire next June, making his continuation at Juventus uncertain. It is expected that any new offensive deal will enhance the team's ability to perform in upcoming matches, without David losing his place in the starting lineup.

It is noted that Juventus is considering physically strong strikers like Jean-Philippe Mateta and Youssef En-Nesyri to bolster their attacking options in the final weeks of the winter transfer market.
