De Jong Surpasses Koeman and Chases Cocu's Record with Barcelona
Monday 26-01-2026
The Spanish newspaper 'Mundo Deportivo' confirmed that Frenkie de Jong, the 28-year-old Dutch midfielder for Barcelona, played his 193rd match with the Catalan team during the encounter with Oviedo, surpassing the legend Ronald Koeman who had 192 matches, making him the second most participating Dutch player with Barcelona.

The list of Dutch players with the most appearances for Barcelona is topped by:

Phillip Cocu: 205 matches.

Frenkie de Jong: 193 matches.

Ronald Koeman: 192 matches.

Patrick Kluivert: 182 matches.

Michael Reiziger: 173 matches.

De Jong joined Barcelona in 2019, and since then he has successfully built a long and stable career with the team, allowing him to advance to second place among his compatriots in terms of the number of matches.

After surpassing Koeman, with whom he played and under whose leadership he participated, De Jong still faces the Dutch legend Phillip Cocu, who played between 1998 and 2004 and held the captain's armband, having played 205 matches. De Jong needs only 12 more matches to equal Cocu's record, and it is expected that he will achieve this before the end of the current season, unless any emergencies hinder his progress.
