Referee for Barcelona vs Copenhagen in the Champions League
UEFA announced the appointment of French referee Benoit Bastien to officiate the match between Barcelona and Copenhagen, scheduled for Wednesday evening at 10:00 PM Cairo time at Spotify Camp Nou, as part of the final round of the league stage in the Champions League.
Benoit Bastien is 42 years old and has previously officiated only one match for Barcelona, which was against Galatasaray in the first leg of the Round of 16 in the Europa League during the 2021/2022 season, ending in a goalless draw.
He has officiated two matches for Copenhagen, one ending in a draw and the other in a loss, with the defeat being against Sevilla with a score of 3-0 in the group stage of the Champions League during the 2022/2023 season.
Belgian Bram Van Driessche will be in charge of the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology, assisting Benoit Bastien in reviewing controversial refereeing decisions during the match, where Barcelona aims to secure a victory to finish the league stage among the top eight and avoid the qualifying playoff for the Round of 16.
