Flick: Pressure Was the Key to Victory, and Match Fatigue Affected Us
Following Barcelona's victory over Real Oviedo, German coach Hans Flick spoke about the match, emphasizing that the team struggled to reach its best level due to the numerous matches and travels in recent weeks.
Flick said: "A lot of matches and travel, and while that's not an excuse, it did cost us a bit to reach our best level, but we managed to do that in the second half."
He added: "I'm pleased with Lamine Yamal's goal, but what impressed me the most was the pressure the team applied. We were better in the second half, we scored quickly, and that was good. We have one match after another and a lot of traveling, we hardly get any days off, and this must be taken into account. I am aware that this is our job, and the team always puts in maximum effort."
Flick spoke about the new players and the team's performance, saying: "Cancelo has just arrived, but we can see his quality in training. In some situations during the match, he showed a good level, but he needs to adapt to our philosophy, and we are working on that."
He added: "Of course, Marc Bernal and Casado can play together; they are a good option. Casado is very smart, and Bernal plays well with the ball."
He continued: "Cancelo needs a bit more time to adapt. I also wanted to give Balde some rest and manage his playing minutes. Perhaps he is more of an attacking player than a full-back, but he took the first step and performed well as a starter."
Flick pointed to Eric Garcia's performance, stating: "Eric played on the right and as a central defender, he has become a better leader and seems to enjoy this role. It's good that he can play in every position."
He added about Olmo: "He has improved a lot in the last two games, scoring, assisting, and maintaining possession of the ball. This is what I want from him."
