Bayern Munich Continues Negotiations with Upamecano Amid Specific Points of Dispute
Friday 23-01-2026
Negotiations to renew the contract of French defender Dayot Upamecano with Bayern Munich continue without reaching a final agreement so far, despite previous expectations of quickly resolving the matter, according to journalist Maximilian Koch via the German newspaper Abendzeitung.

According to the same source, there are still two main points hindering the closure of the agreement. The first concerns the duration of the new contract, as it has not yet been decided whether Upamecano will renew his contract until the summer of 2030 or 2031. The second point revolves around the timing of the activation of the release clause.

Koch pointed out that Upamecano's representatives are demanding that the release clause become effective starting in 2027, while Bayern Munich prefers to include it beginning in 2028, in an attempt to protect their defensive stability in the near term.

On the other hand, the report confirmed that both parties reached a full agreement regarding the salary and signing bonus, with the player set to receive approximately 20 million euros per year, reflecting the club's appreciation of his technical value within the team.

Although the negotiations may continue for additional days, the same source emphasized that extending Upamecano's contract remains the most likely option, and that a failure to reach an agreement would be a major surprise within the Bavarian club.
