Thursday 22-01-2026
The Uruguayan defender Ronald Araujo returned to leave a positive impression with Barcelona during the team's match against Slavia Prague in the UEFA Champions League, after entering in the 79th minute instead of Balde, as confirmed by the Spanish newspaper 'Mundo Deportivo'.

Araujo participated for the first time in the European competition since the defeat against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge about two months ago, which saw him being sent off and missing eight matches due to psychological health reasons. During his short appearance, the defender showcased his strength and speed in dealing with counter-attacks, and utilized his height to defend against the ball from a corner kick, emerging as a decisive element in the defensive line.

Coach Hans Flick confirmed after the match that Araujo was fantastic and contributed significantly, adding: 'He is strong and fast, and these qualities are what we need in defense,' highlighting his importance to the team at the current stage.

The newspaper highlighted that Araujo's participation, despite being limited to a quarter of an hour, represents an important step in regaining his form and returning to his optimal level, which provides Barcelona with a qualitative addition in defense before the final decision to qualify among the top eight in the UEFA Champions League.
