Renard Fires at Brahim Diaz
French coach Hervé Renard attacked Moroccan star Brahim Diaz after he missed a crucial penalty against Senegal in the Africa Cup of Nations final, considering the way it was taken unacceptable at such a decisive moment.
Renard, the Saudi national team coach, said angrily: "How can such an important penalty be taken in this way? This is an insult to a country and an entire people who have been striving for success for 50 years," referring to the weight of responsibility on the player in such situations.
The coach, who previously managed Morocco, recalled a similar experience during the Arab Cup when he was leading Saudi Arabia against Morocco, confirming that he faced a similar situation within his team.
Renard added: "Abdullah Al-Hamdan missed a penalty in a Panenka style, so I asked him to come with me to the press conference and apologize," stressing that respecting the fans and the national team must be a priority, especially in major matches.
