Erbil Club Management Issues Statement Regarding Refereeing After Al-Zawraa Match!
The club management expressed its rejection and strong condemnation of the deliberate refereeing injustice that its team was subjected to during the match against Al-Zawraa Club, within the framework of the thirteenth round of the Iraqi Stars League, affirming that the refereeing errors directly affected the course of the match and its final result.
The statement said that the match witnessed repeated errors described as "catastrophic" by the field referee, alongside controversial decisions from the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) room, which, according to the management, led to the team’s rights being wasted and its efforts being stolen on the field.
The statement pointed to the most prominent refereeing incidents, including the awarding of a correct penalty kick in favor of the team in the 58th minute by the field referee, before being suddenly called by the VAR room to cancel the decision despite the clarity of the incident. The management confirmed that Al-Zawraa’s goalkeeper did not touch the ball at all but deliberately used his right hand on the chest of player Mustafa Qabil, causing obstruction and preventing him from reaching the ball inside the penalty area.
The statement added that this was not the only incident, as the match witnessed several other decisions against the team that clearly affected the flow of play and the final result, increasing the dissatisfaction among players, the technical staff, and the fans.
The club management called on the Referees Department and Committee, in particular, to clarify the reasons behind this repeated targeting of the team, urging the adoption of measures that ensure justice and integrity within Iraqi stadiums and fairness for clubs away from any unjustified errors or interpretations.
The statement concluded by affirming the club’s insistence on its legitimate rights and demanding a serious stance from the concerned authorities to preserve the credibility of the competition in the Iraqi Stars League and to guarantee equal opportunities among all teams.
